http://dbpedia.org/ontology/abstract Edmund Collein (10 January 1906 – 21 JanuaEdmund Collein (10 January 1906 – 21 January 1992) was an East German architect and urban planner. He is also known for his photography while studying at the Bauhaus art school. As a functionary of the SED, the ruling political party of East Germany, Collein was an important figure in forming and implementing the government's new socialist building policies in the 1950s and 1960s. He was Professor of Urban Planning at the Bauakademie der DDR (Building Academy of the GDR) and he was the Academy's inaugural Vice-President. He was the President of the Bund der Architekten der DDR (Federation of Architects of the GDR) between 1966 and 1975, and he represented East German architects on government bodies and at the International Union of Architects. Collein was one of the authors of The Sixteen Principles of Urban Design (German: Die Sechzehn Grundsätze des Städtebaus), which from 1950 until 1955 was the primary model for urban planning in the GDR.imary model for urban planning in the GDR. , Edmund Collein (* 10. Bis 1938 arbeitete er für Architektenbüros in München, Berlin und Wien vor allen an sozialen Wohnbauten und Krankenhäusern. Von 1939 bis 1945 diente er in der Wehrmacht. Von 1945 bis 1948 war er Mitarbeiter des Hochbauamtes von Berlin, nach der Spaltung Berlins 1948 Leiter des Hochbauamtes in Ost-Berlin bis 1951, danach Leiter des Stadtplanungsamtes. 1951 wurde er Professor für Städtebau und Vizepräsident, 1958 Leiter des Instituts für Gebiets-, Stadt- und Dorfplanung der Deutschen Bauakademie. 1955 bis 1958 war er Vorsitzender des Beirates für Bauwesen des Ministerrates der DDR. Ab 1958 projektierte er gemeinsam mit Josef Kaiser und den zweiten Bauabschnitt der Berliner Stalinallee zwischen Strausberger Platz und Alexanderplatz. 1963 bis 1971 war er Vorsitzender des Wissenschaftlichen Rates, 1966 bis 1975 Präsident des „Bundes Deutscher Architekten“ in der DDR, der sich 1971 in „Bund der Architekten der DDR“ umbenannte, und ab 1978 dessen Ehrenmitglied. Von 1954 bis 1963 war Collein Kandidat des Zentralkomitees der SED.lein Kandidat des Zentralkomitees der SED.
