Harry Glicken, né le 7 mars 1958 et mort l … Harry Glicken, né le 7 mars 1958 et mort le 3 juin 1991, est un volcanologue américain. Il est notamment connu pour avoir étudié le mont Saint Helens aux États-Unis avant et après sa célèbre éruption de 1980. Après cette éruption, il se sent responsable de la mort du volcanologue David A. Johnston, qui le remplaçait pour la journée sur les pentes du mont Saint Helens. En 1991, menant des recherches sur le mont Unzen au Japon, Glicken est tué par une coulée pyroclastique aux côtés notamment des volcanologues français Maurice et Katia Krafft. Johnston et Glicken sont les seuls volcanologues américains ayant trouvé la mort dans une éruption volcanique. Malgré de nombreuses années au service de l'Institut d'études géologiques des États-Unis (USGS), Glicken ne reçoit jamais de poste permanent, sans doute à cause de sa personnalité atypique. Menant des recherches indépendantes grâce à des fonds d'organisations comme la National Science Foundation, Glicken acquiert une expertise dans le domaine des nuées ardentes. Il écrit plusieurs publications importantes sur ce sujet, dont sa thèse de doctorat inspirée de ses recherches au mont Saint Helens qui est publiée à titre posthume en 1996.
