Der Schwerpunkt ihrer Arbeit liegt auf der systemneurobiologischen Grundlagenforschung und umfasst auf der Basis eines interdisziplinären und integrativen Ansatzes Projekte, die thematisch in der Biologie, Medizin, Physik, Informatik und den Ingenieurwissenschaften sowie der Kognitionsforschung und der Neurophilosophie angesiedelt sind. Die Förderung des CIN lief bis 2019.
