The Neustrelitz Little Lakes Region (Germa … The Neustrelitz Little Lakes Region (German: Neustrelitzer Kleinseengebiet) is a landscape in the south of the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, in der region around the town of Neustrelitz, and in the north of the state of Brandenburg, north of Rheinsberg. The northern part of the lakeland region is drained by the River Havel, which also has its source here. There is a link through the to the southern part, the , which is drained by the Rhin. Large parts of the northern lake region lie in the two halves (Müritz and Serrahn) of the Müritz National Park. The lakeland was formed during the Weichselian glaciation about 12,000 years agon in the glacial meltwater valleys and sandar of the Pomeranian stage. The lakeland lies in sandur country, that is bounded to the north and south by the main terminal moraine ridges of the Pomeranian and Frankfurt Stages, interspersed with an intermediate series that runs parallel to the terminal moraines and reaches heights of 100 metres. The highest elevations occur in the western part of the Serrahn Hills and the eastern part of the . The landscape is dominated by a large number of small lakes, the largest being the Zierker See, Großer Labussee and Useriner See in the northern part and and the Großer Stechlinsee in the south. The lakes are mostly elongated channels arranged as chains of lakes aligned in various directions. The main towns in the lake district, in addition to Neustrelitz, are Fürstenberg/Havel, Rheinsberg, Lychen and Mirow. For a few years, efforts have been made, on the part of the Mecklenburg-Strelitz Wildlife Conservation Group (Naturschutzbund Mecklenburg Strelitz), to turn parts of the protected landscape of the Neustrelitz Little Lake Region and elements of the Müritz Lakes Park and Kratzeburg Havel Source Lakes into a Strelitz Little Lakes Nature Park. Es bildet einen Naturraum innerhalb der Großregion Mecklenburgische Seenplatte mit einer Fläche von 1771,1 km². Sein südwestlicher Bereich wird durch das Rheinsberger Seengebiet eingenommen. Hauptorte des Neustrelitzer Kleinseenlandes sind Fürstenberg/Havel, Lychen, Mirow, Neustrelitz, Rheinsberg und Wesenberg. Der nördliche Teil der Seenlandschaft wird über die Havel entwässert, die hier auch ihren Ursprung hat. Über den Prebelowkanal besteht eine Verbindung zum Rheinsberger Seengebiet, das über den Rhin entwässert. Über den Mirower Kanal und die Alte Fahrt besteht eine Verbindung zum . Im Osten schließt sich der Naturpark Feldberger Seenlandschaft an. Große Teile des nördlichen Seenlandes liegen in den beiden Teilen („Müritz“ und „Serrahn“) des Müritz-Nationalparks. Im Süden ist das Neustrelitzer Kleinseenland teilweise in den Naturpark Stechlin-Ruppiner Land und in den Naturpark Uckermärkische Seen einbezogen. Das Seenland entstand im Verlauf der Weichseleiszeit vor ungefähr 12.000 Jahren in den Urstromtälern und Sandern des Pommerschen Stadiums. Das Seenland liegt in der Sanderlandschaft, die im Norden und Süden von den Hauptendmoränenzügen des Pommerschen und Frankfurter Stadiums begrenzt wird und mit Moränenkuppen einer Zwischenstaffel durchsetzt ist, die parallel zu den Endmoränen verläuft und Höhen über 100 m erreicht. Herausragende Erhebungen sind im westlichen Teil die Serrahner Berge und im östlichen Teil der Käflingsberg. Die Landschaft wird von einer Vielzahl von kleinen Seen geprägt, deren größte der Zierker See, Große Labussee und Useriner See im nördlichen Teil und der Rheinsberger See und der Große Stechlinsee im Süden sind. Die Seen sind meist langgestreckte Rinnenseen und als Seenketten in verschiedenste Richtungen angeordnet. Seit wenigen Jahren gibt es Bemühungen seitens des Naturschutzbund Mecklenburg Strelitz, Teile des Landschaftsschutzgebietes Neustrelitzer Kleinseenplatte und Rudimente der Schutzgebiete Müritz Seenpark und Havelquellseen Kratzeburg in einen Naturpark Strelitzer Kleinseenplatte zu überführen.
