Située à proximité du centre de la ville de Mons, elle fut mise en service en 1841 par les chemins de fer de l'État belge et deux fois reconstruite depuis lors. Le dernier bâtiment, qui datait de 1952, a été démoli en 2013 et est progressivement remplacé par une nouvelle gare en construction conçue par l'architecte Santiago Calatrava. , Station Bergen is een spoorwegstation lang … Station Bergen is een spoorwegstation langs spoorlijn 96 (Brussel - Bergen - Quévy), spoorlijn 97 (Bergen - Quiévrain) en spoorlijn 118 (La Louvière - Bergen) in de Belgische stad Bergen (Frans: Mons). Een eerste stationsgebouw werd opgetrokken in 1841 wanneer de trein voor het eerst Bergen bereikte. Dit station werd al in 1874 vervangen door een nieuwbouw om te voldoen aan de explosieve groei die de spoorwegen doormaakten in de 19e eeuw. In 1947 werd gestart met de bouw van het zogenaamde "Panis" stationsgebouw (naar de naam van de Bergens architect). Het in 1952 opgeleverde gebouw werd in 2013 gesloopt en het hele emplacement is sindsdien in verbouwing om plaats te maken voor een nieuw station naar een ontwerp van de Spaanse architect Santiago Calatrava. De voltooiing die oorspronkelijk gepland was voor 2015 ter gelegenheid van de viering van Bergen als Culturele hoofdstad van Europa in dat jaar is nog steeds niet afgerond. Onder andere door het faillissement van een van de aannemers en conflicten met onderaannemers heeft de bouwwerf vele maanden stilgelegen en is de voltooiing nu pas voorzien voor 2023. De oorspronkelijke kostprijs voor het nieuwe station was berekend op 37 miljoen euro maar is ondertussen al opgelopen tot 324 miljoen. De vertraging en de kostenoverschrijding hebben er toe geleid dat in plenaire zitting van de Kamer op 3 juni 2021 het Rekenhof gevraagd werd een onderzoek te voeren in deze zaak. .
