The organization was officially launched in 2003, by the then-Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Lee Hsien Loong, it seeks to promote a life of compassion, care and volunteerism. As well as responding to immediate disasters in the Asian region, its longer-term developmental projects also focus on water & sanitation, shelter, sustainable livelihoods, healthcare and education. Mercy Relief responds within 72 hours of a disaster, delivering emergency aid to affected communities. It has executed 84 separate disaster relief operations as well as 65 sustainable developmental programs. A core aspect of Mercy Relief's values is not only in responding to emergencies but also following up their aftermath, hence their 5 core values as seen above.
