Der etwa 15 Meter hohe Fels befindet sich in einer Höhe von etwa 500 m ü. NN. Er besteht aus relativ brüchigem Quarzporphyr, wird eher selten von Sportkletterern besucht. Mehrere Wege sind ausgeschildert, am Fels sind Routen eingerichtet, auf dem Turm befindet sich ein Gipfelbuch. Die in dieser Gegend recht ungewöhnliche Form des Felsen regte schon vor Jahrhunderten die Phantasie der einfachen Leute an, diese verband oft unverständliche Erscheinungen und rätselhafte Orte mit dem Wirken des Teufels. It stands about 800 m east of the (upper) village of Winterstein on the northern slopes of the Thuringian Forest in Germany. The pinnacle is about 15 metres high and some 500 m above sea level (NN). It consists of a relatively crumbly quartz porphyry and is visited, albeit rarely, by sports climbers. Several trails are signposted from here, climbing routes have been established on the rock and on the top is a summit register.
