Horizons shows the idealized migrant family and it portrays a family –consisting of a husband, wife, and child– sitting on a bluff, surrounded by mountains. The three members of the family are often referred as a version of the Holy family, with the woman dressed in colors like the Virgin Mary, with a baby on her lap. The gaze of the wife, child, and father are in the direction of the man's outstretched hand, which evokes Michelangelo's Creation of Adam, and that points toward an unseen horizon. Horizontes, de la que se han documentado cinco versiones originales de la mano del propio Cano, muestra la figura de un agricultor señalando el horizonte con su mano izquierda junto a su esposa que carga un bebé, ambos descansando sobre una roca en la montaña, en el eje cafetero. El tamaño de la versión conservada por el Museo de Antioquia es de 95 x 150 centímetros, y las demás versiones tienen dimensiones variables.
