Il Genoa Cricket and Football Club, o più … Il Genoa Cricket and Football Club, o più semplicemente Genoa, è una società calcistica di Genova fondata nel 1893. È il quarto sodalizio calcistico italiano più antico per istituzione (dopo il Torino Football & Cricket Club, il Nobili Torino e l'Internazionale Torino), nonché quello in possesso del più antico documento scritto attestante la data di fondazione e il più longevo fra quelli in attività. Il Genoa ha vinto nove scudetti del campionato italiano di calcio (tra cui il primo in assoluto risalente al 1898), l'ultimo dei quali nella stagione 1923-1924, nonché un'edizione della Coppa Italia. Inoltre, dal 1898 al 1929 (ovvero nella fase dei campionati nazionali antecedenti l'introduzione del cosiddetto girone unico), quella rossoblù è la squadra che ha ottenuto il maggior numero di punti complessivi, e negli anni 1910 la sezione di pallanuoto del Genoa partecipò al campionato italiano di pallanuoto vincendo quattro scudetti (nel 1912, 1913, 1914 e 1919). , The club was founded on 7 September 1893 a … The club was founded on 7 September 1893 as Genoa Cricket & Athletic Club. In its earliest years, they principally competed in athletics and cricket. Association football was secondly practised. Since the club was set up to represent England abroad, the original shirts worn by the organisation were white, the same colour as the England national team shirt. At first Italians were not permitted to join as it was a private club. Genoa's activities took place in the north-west of the city in the Campasso area, at the Piazza d'Armi. The men who initially dealt the management of the club were; On 10 April 1897 the footballing section of the club, already existing from 1893, became predominant thanks to James Richardson Spensley. It was amongst the oldest in Italian football as at the time, the only other founded clubs were four in Turin. Italians were allowed to join and they found a new ground in the form of Ponte Carrega. The first friendly match took place at home, against a mixed team of Internazionale Torino and FBC Torinese; Genoa lost 1–0. Not long after, Genoa recorded their first victory away against UPS Alessandria winning 2–0.
