The Glan Valley Railway (German: Glantalba … The Glan Valley Railway (German: Glantalbahn) is a non-electrified line along the Glan river, in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It consists of the Glan-Münchweiler–Altenglan section, which was built as part of the Landstuhl–Kusel railway and sections that were built later for military reasons: Homburg–Glan-Münchweiler, Altenglan–Staudernheim and Odernheim–Bad Münster am Stein. The line had strategic importance, otherwise traffic was rather low, except on the Glan Munchweiler–Altenglan section. The line runs right next to the river for 60 km of its 85 km length from Homburg to Bad Münster. The line is closed, except for the ten km section from Glan-Münchweiler to Altenglan that forms part of the Landstuhl–Kusel line. It is used for tourism and draisine rides have been offered on the section between Altenglan and Staudernheim since 2000. Sie wurde um die Wende vom 19. zum 20. Jahrhundert in erster Linie aus strategischen Gründen gebaut. Der Streckenabschnitt Glan-Münchweiler – Altenglan entstand bereits 1868 als Teil der Bahnstrecke Landstuhl – Kusel. In den Jahren 1896 und 1897 folgte der Abschnitt Lauterecken – Odernheim – Staudernheim, zunächst als Fortsetzung der 1883 eröffneten Lautertalbahn. Die übrigen Abschnitte Homburg – Glan-Münchweiler, Altenglan – Lauterecken und Odernheim – Bad Münster wurden 1904 eröffnet. In Odernheim teilte sich die Bahnstrecke in den seit 1897 bestehenden Ast nach Staudernheim und in den nach Bad Münster. Aufgrund der dünnen Besiedlung der Region war der Verkehr außer in den beiden Weltkriegen, in denen der Strecke eine strategische Bedeutung zukam, eher gering. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde das zweite Gleis schrittweise demontiert. Von 1961 bis 1986 wurde der Personenverkehr auf weiten Teilen der Bahnstrecke eingestellt. Seit 1996 ist die Strecke mit Ausnahme des als Teil der Verbindung von Landstuhl nach Kusel befahrenen Abschnitts Glan-Münchweiler – Altenglan stillgelegt. Zwischen Waldmohr und Glan-Münchweiler sowie zwischen Odernheim und Bad Münster ist die Glantalbahn abgebaut. Seit Anfang 2000 bietet auf dem Abschnitt Altenglan – Staudernheim ein Draisinenverleih Draisinen für Selbstfahrer an.inenverleih Draisinen für Selbstfahrer an.
