It runs from Grünstadt in a southwesterly direction through the valley of the Eisbach (or "Eis") to Enkenbach. The iron ore industry in and around Eisenberg gave the line considerable importance for the transport of goods, whilst passenger services played a rather secondary role. The remaining stretch of line to Enkenbach was not completed until 1932 under the direction of the Deutsche Reichsbahn. After passenger services had been withdrawn in 1976, strategic considerations during the Cold War prevented its complete closure. Goods traffic between Eisenberg and Enkenbach ended in 1988. Sie führt von Grünstadt in südwestlicher Richtung durch das Tal des Eisbachs, das Eistal, nach Enkenbach. Der Abschnitt Grünstadt–Eisenberg wurde bereits 1876 von der Gesellschaft der Pfälzischen Nordbahnen eröffnet. Die Eisenerzindustrie in und um Eisenberg verschaffte ihr im Gütertransport eine große Bedeutung, während der Personenverkehr eine eher untergeordnete Rolle spielte. Der restliche Streckenabschnitt bis Enkenbach folgte erst 1932 unter Regie der Deutschen Reichsbahn. Nachdem der Personenverkehr 1976 eingestellt worden war, verhinderte lediglich strategisches Interesse angesichts des Kalten Krieges eine Gesamtstilllegung. Der Güterverkehr zwischen Eisenberg und Enkenbach endete im Jahr 1988. Im Zeitraum von 1994 bis 2001 wurde die Strecke zwischen Grünstadt und dem Eiswoog reaktiviert; der restliche Abschnitt blieb stillgelegt. Der Güterverkehr kam 2001 komplett zum Erliegen. Die Bahnstrecke verfügt über drei Brückenbauwerke, wovon nur noch die Bockbachtalbrücke im Sonn- und Feiertagsverkehr befahren wird.
