Banyingela Kasonga (born May 4, 1959), is a priest and was a candidate for the presidential elections in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in July 2006.

Il a un cursus en théologie à l’Université de Kinshasa ainsi qu’un doctorat à la Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL) en Belgique. Il est polyglotte (il parle six langues : tchiluba, lingala, français, anglais, néerlandais, espagnol). Au cours de sa carrière, Banyingela Kasonga a eu plusieurs occupations qui le propulsèrent à la tête de différentes communautés :

* 1988 - 1994 : directeur du (Kananga)
* 1994 - 1996 : directeur du Petit Séminaire de Kabwe
* 1999 - 2000 : professeur invité de théologie systématique au (Kananga). Il prit également part à de nombreuses activités dans le domaine de la théologie :
* Membre du Research Department in Systematic Theology (KUL depuis novembre 2000)
* Membre associé de la Catholic Theological Society of America (depuis 2003)
* Chercheur à l’Académie de la Pensée Africaine – Academy of African Thought (Kinshasa-Munich-Paris depuis mars 2004)
* Chercheur associé au Centre d’Études Africaines et de Recherches Interculturelles (Bruxelles)
* Membre de droit de l’Association des Patrologues Africains (Kinshasa).
* Plusieurs voyages d’études et de recherches aux États-Unis : University of Notre Dame(Summer Session 2001), Mount Angel Seminary (Oregon, USA, 2003), Oregon State University (Portland, 2004) et en Europe: (Institut Catholique de Paris, 2002), Institut Missio Aachen (Allemagne).
* Auteur d’articles et d’essais dans des revues scientifiques au Congo et en Belgique. Il a toujours souhaité également participer à l’évolution de la République démocratique du Congo, c’est pour cela qu’il a pris part à de nombreux mouvements dont bien souvent il obtient la présidence :
* Engagement politico-social : activiste dans le groupe du Comité laïc de Coordination avec un groupe de prêtres qui avaient réussi à faire échec à la réforme monétaire de 1993 dans la province du Kasayi Occidental.
* Ancien président de l’Association de fait « Opus Genesis », un groupe de réflexion sur l’avenir du Congo et de l’Afrique.
* Président du Mouvement pour l’Avancement Solidaire dont « Opus Genesis » est devenu l’observatoire scientifique sous la direction de M. .
* Engagement théologico-pastoral : option pour la « théologie de l’action collective de transformation » qui se veut un pendant congolais de la théologie de la libération. Ce courant s’appuie sur l’idéologie de la nouvelle conscience noire (New Black Conscioussness) dont l’objectif est d’amener le peuple noir, en commençant par les Congolais, à prendre leur destinée en main. En 2006, il se présente à l’élection présidentielle congolaise pour le compte de l'Alliance des paysans et écologistes.
