Het is gevestigd op Boerhaaveplein 28, Amsterdam, in het voormalige Badhuis Andreas Bonnstraat (na renovatie van het gebouw kreeg het een nieuw adres). Onder leiding van artistiek leider Michael Manicardi biedt het Badhuistheater een podium aan theatergroepen, bands, discussieavonden en wordt tevens gebruikt als feestlocatie. De programmering van het Badhuistheater richt zich op zogenaamde community art en internationale (Engelstalige) producties. Het beheer van het theater is in handen van de Stichting Beheer Badhuis. Het theater (voorheen: "De Bochel") komt voort uit de theaterwerkplaats van de Mobiele Bochel Eenheid en (straat)theatergroep 'De Klus' welke vanaf 1983 waren gevestigd in de vroeger de remise van busmaatschappij Centraal Nederland, op de plek waar nu de is. Toen rond 1985 de remise werd gesloopt, heeft de theaterwerkplaats onder leiding van theatermaker Michael Manicardi intrek genomen in het toen verwaarloosde badhuis en het geschikt gemaakt als theater. De naam van het theater is ontleend aan het gebouw waarin het is gevestigd, een voormalige badhuis uit 1921 en is gelegen naast de vroegere bierbrouwerij de Amstel aan de rand van de Amstel Campus van de Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA). Sinds 2014 heeft het Badhuistheater een eigen theatergezelschap: . Het gezelschap brengt regelmatig nieuwe voorstellingen in het Badhuis en treedt ook op tijdens festivals en op andere locaties. De afgelopen jaren bracht het werk uit de Dublin Trilogy van Sean O'Casey , 'Allo 'Allo! (toneelstuk naar de Britse tv-serie en adaptatie van afleveringen), Blackadder goes Forth (theater adaptatie van de Britse tv-serie), van Joe Orton, Blackadder goes Forth - part II (met een adaptatie van andere afleveringen van de tv-serie) en "De Brave Soldaat Svejk". de tv-serie) en "De Brave Soldaat Svejk".
