Alex Nain Saab Morán (Barranquilla, Colomb … Alex Nain Saab Morán (Barranquilla, Colombia; 21 de diciembre de 1971) es un abogado colombiano de ascendencia libanesa con nacionalidad venezolana (obtenida de forma fraudulenta) y antiguana. Desde 2017, ha sido señalado como presunto testaferro del presidente Nicolás Maduro por parte de la exfiscal venezolana Luisa Ortega Díaz y por otras personalidades. Asimismo, es mencionado en los Panama Papers, Pandora Papers, FinCEN Files e investigaciones periodísticas, y está solicitado por las autoridades de Colombia y Estados Unidos por realizar negocios con un importe estimado en 135 millones de dólares con el gobierno de Venezuela durante las presidencias de Hugo Chávez y Nicolás Maduro, a diferencia de otros empresarios colombianos que tuvieron que dejar de exportar a Venezuela debido a la incertidumbre frente a los pagos de sus facturas de importación y los excesivos controles motivados a la aplicación del control cambiario en Venezuela. Desde octubre de 2018 está siendo investigado por lavado de activos que habría obtenido haciendo negociaciones con el gobierno venezolano entre los años 2004 y 2011. Saab ha realizado diferentes operaciones de importación hacia Venezuela, como el suministro para casas prefabricadas de la Misión Vivienda por un monto de 685 millones de dólares (2011), otras facturas de 340 millones de dólares en las ventas de cajas de alimentos del CLAP al gobierno de Táchira (2016) y 425 millones de dólares en ventas al sistema CLAP (2017) con su empresa Group Grand Limited de Hong Kong, la empresa Asasi Food FZC registrada en Emiratos Árabes Unidos tiene varios contratos por un total de 548,78 millones de euros entre operaciones de importación ficticias, sacando ventaja de la diferencia del dólar preferencial que otorga a la importación de alimentos, sistema que fue eliminado en 2019. Durante el transcurso de estas investigaciones su revisor fiscal y contable han sido detenidos y acusados de cinco delitos por la fiscalía de Colombia. El 9 de junio de 2020, el fiscal general de Colombia emitió un comunicado informando la extinción de dominio de sus bienes por un valor de 35 mil millones de pesos representado por siete inmuebles. Tuvo vigente una circular roja de Interpol para ser ubicado e interrogado por una acción criminal en perjuicio del Estado colombiano. Saab fue arrestado en Cabo Verde el 12 de junio de 2020 cuando su avión aterrizó en el Aeropuerto Internacional Amílcar Cabral en la Isla de Sal para recargar combustible. Estados Unidos solicitó su extradición, la cual fue aprobada y se ejecutó el 16 de octubre de 2021. El gobierno venezolano originalmente negó o ignoró cualquier relación con Saab durante años, pero tras su detención en Cabo Verde comenzó a desplegar una campaña de apoyo en favor de Saab y para evitar su extradición, usando cuentas de redes sociales gubernamentales y llenando Caracas de vallas publicitarias, murales y grafitis pidiendo su liberación, organizando manifestaciones en su apoyo e iniciando una serie en YouTube sobre él. Saab's name has appeared in multiple ICIJ leaks including the Panama Papers, Pandora Papers and the FinCEN Files. Saab was enriched by the materials supplier business of the Housing Mission in Venezuela. Armando.Info, a Venezuelan investigative journalist outlet, reported that Saab received US$159 million from the Venezuelan government to import housing materials between 2012 and 2013, but only delivered products worth US$3 million. He later sold food to Venezuela for more than US$200 million in a contract signed by President Nicolás Maduro. The food was later resold in Venezuela for 112% more than its original price. Saab has been investigated by Colombian authorities for allegedly laundering US$25,000 million between 2004 and 2011. On 8 May 2019, the Office of the Attorney General of Colombia indicted Saab with charges of money laundering, concert to commit crimes, illicit enrichment, fictitious exports and imports, and aggravated fraud for events related to his Shatex company. During the course of these investigations, his accounting auditors were arrested and charged by the prosecutor's office. During a fuel stop at Cape Verde, Alex Saab was arrested while on his way from Iran to Venezuela on a business jet on 12 June 2020. Saab was arrested in accordance to an Interpol red notice in relation to his indictment in United States, accused of money laundering. Saab's extradition to the United States was approved by the Barlovento Appeals Tribunal, Cape Verde's Supreme Court of Justice and its Constitutional Court. The Venezuelan government denied or ignored any relationship with Saab for years, but after his arrest in Cape Verde it started deploying a support campaign in favour of Saab and to prevent his extradition, using government social media accounts and filling Caracas with billboards, murals and graffitis asking for his release, organizing demonstrations in his support, and starting a YouTube series about him. He was extradited to the United States on 16 October 2021 and charged with eight counts of money laundering, accused of moving $350 million out of Venezuela into accounts controlled in the United States and other countries, as well as falsifying documents to obtain contracts for the construction of affordable housing, facing up to twenty years in prison. Maduro's government suspended negotiation talks with the political opposition as a response.
