An affiliated school (also affiliated coll … An affiliated school (also affiliated college, federated school, federated college or federated university) is an educational institution that operates independently, but also has a formal collaborative agreement with another, usually larger institution that may have some level of control or influence over its academic policies, standards or programs. While a university may have one or several affiliated colleges, it is not necessarily a collegiate university, which is a union or federation of semi-autonomous colleges. For the most part, this model is restricted to colleges and universities. L'Université de Toronto et l'Université Laurentienne, au Canada, ont également adopté une structure fédérale, mais leurs collèges fédérés ont une autonomie beaucoup moins importante que ceux de l'Université de Londres. Historiquement, les collèges fédérés sont souvent d'anciennes institutions indépendantes qui ont rejoint plus tard une institution plus grande installée à proximité, tel Trinity College et l'Université de Toronto.
