Die ÖVP konnte bei den Wahlen ihre absolute Mehrheit verteidigen und verbuchte leichte Stimmenzuwächse. Die SPÖ erlitt eine herbe Niederlage, Spitzenkandidatin Heidemaria Onodi trat nach dem Verlust von 8 Prozent von ihrem Amt als Landeshauptmann-Stellvertreterin und SPÖ-Landesvorsitzende zurück. Von den Verlusten der SPÖ profitierte vor allem die FPÖ, die ihren Stimmenanteil mehr als verdoppeln konnte und in die Niederösterreichische Landesregierung einzog. Die Grünen erlitten leichte Verluste, konnten jedoch die Mandatszahl und damit den Klubstatus halten. Alle anderen Parteien blieben unter der Marke von einem Prozent.
